Why are Nazi soldiers treated so badly?

Here's the thing--if no one stands up and does the right thing x thousands of troops = atrocities happen. Each and every soldier who decided that it was ok to support Hitler contributed to the annihilation of millions of human lives. Sure, many of them likely felt pressure to do it and thought their own lives would suffer if they didn't, but imagine if one by one, all of Hitler's army decided to step down. Things would have been a lot different. Most people do not have the courage of their convictions such that they are willing to take those kinds of chances, though.
