Is there any aquatic life in Lake Ontario that could injure someone's leg?

I recently got injured last weekend when I was about a half mile into lake Ontario, from a beach in Port Dalousie which is by the city of St.Catharines. I was swimming with my friend, and leaning back in the water, and kicking me legs at an even pace in front of me and out of nowhere me leg felt like the tendons ripped and muscle ripped, although I'm in perfectly good health. Before this happened to my leg I heard electrical buzzing under the water. I had to get taken by ambulance and my leg has still been numb for days. We already researched on electric eels but apparently there aren't any in lake ontario, so is there anything else that could have stung me or anything?
