Why won't my Ipod charge?

My first charger got messed up because I pulled it out of the Ipod to hard and ripped it. And sometimes with my first charger it would say "charging not supported with this acsessory" but when i unplugged it and plugged it back it would charge. I got a new Ipod charger and it worked really good for the first couple days and charged it then started saying "charging not supported with this acsessory" again but when i unplugged it and plugged it back it would charge. Well, It said 'charging not supported with acsessory' again but plugging and unplugging wouldnt work this time this time. So my ipod was almost dead when it wouldnt charge, so now my ipod is dead and wont charge back up. Whats wrong with it? Is the Ipod messed up or is it the charger?
