Native(English) check please?

In days of old, there were definitely a few strict adults who would always give a sermon to kids when they acted foolishly. I think that there was a strong pressure on the local community to ensure that its children would grow up well. Thanks to that atmosphere, children grew up feeling like a valued member of their community.
